Your ambition did not disappear when you became a mother.
Perhaps it became quieter because everyone else’s needs grew louder.
Perhaps you became so capable at carrying family life, work, responsibility and emotional labour that nobody noticed how much of yourself had been pushed into the background.
Gut Sensei was created for ambitious mothers who love their families deeply and still feel the need to grow, create, contribute and become more fully themselves.
I do not believe women should have to choose between caring for the people they love and honouring their own potential. I believe our wellbeing, ambition, relationships, nourishment and emotional lives are connected, and when we begin caring for them together, we create a stronger foundation for the whole family.
Why I created Gut Sensei
I am Rebecca, a Taiwanese woman who has lived in the UK since 2006, an entrepreneur, writer, former journalist and broadcaster, and the mother of two daughters.
I co-founded an Italian artisan-food business in 2009 and have spent years balancing the realities of entrepreneurship, motherhood, family responsibilities, financial pressure and the desire to keep developing as a person. My background also includes an MBA, experience in nutrition retail, communication and public speaking, and years of learning how food, emotions, identity, and everyday systems shape how we feel and function.
Gut Sensei did not emerge from a perfectly organised life. It grew from living inside the same tensions experienced by many ambitious mothers: loving our children wholeheartedly while feeling parts of our identity becoming harder to reach; knowing what might support our health while lacking the time, energy or mental space to practise it consistently; and still carrying ideas, dreams, and work that matter to us.
I wanted to create the kind of space I needed myself: intelligent without being cold, nurturing without treating women as fragile, practical without pretending that one formula will work for every body, family or season of life.
Why “Gut Sensei”?
A sensei isn't someone who stands above others and claims to have every answer. At its best, the word describes someone committed to learning, practising, observing and helping others develop their own understanding.
That is the spirit of Gut Sensei.
I bring together research, lived experience, food knowledge, entrepreneurship, communication and close observation of real family life. I am not here to diagnose medical conditions or replace appropriately qualified professionals. My role is to help women notice patterns, ask better questions, understand themselves more deeply and translate good intentions into changes that can survive real life.
Because wellbeing should never become another standard women are expected to fail.
A movement for ambitious mothers and the generation they are raising
Gut Sensei is about more than recipes, routines or personal productivity.
When a mother is supported to protect her health, reclaim her voice, and keep developing her potential, the effect doesn't stop with her. Her children witness what self-respect, curiosity, emotional honesty and meaningful ambition look like.
They learn that caring for other people does not require abandoning oneself. They learn that strength can include sensitivity, that success can include humanity, and that women’s ideas, work and inner lives matter.
These children become the adults who will shape our future families, workplaces, communities and institutions.
This is how I believe change travels: through women who feel strong enough to remain themselves, families where people feel safe enough to grow, and younger generations raised with greater emotional intelligence, courage and respect for our shared humanity.
You are invited
You do not need to have everything worked out before joining us.
You may come for a family-friendly recipe, a clearer morning, a practical tool or a conversation about what feels out of rhythm. You may stay because you have found women who understand that motherhood and ambition can belong in the same life.
Gut Sensei is a place to nourish your body, strengthen your inner foundation, and remember who you are still becoming.
What do you want now, for yourself, your family and the future you are helping to shape?
